Fortunately, the creeping autumnal rollout presents the promise of new music to coincide with the new season. With a fresh crop of singles and albums on the way, the opportunity to shake up the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the coming weeks and months seems certain. Apart from the obvious likes of Taylor Swift, here are five artists whose work may very well end up making an impact on the singles charts this Fall. Baka Not Nice Drake’s OVO Sound took some time to log some substantial hits (apart from the Canadian superstar’s own songs), but Partynextdoor ultimately proved himself with two Hot 100 charting singles off of his third album for the label.
OVO’s latest signee Baka Not Nice might be best known for his appearance on Drake’s RIAA platinum certified “Gyalchester” off the More Life project. Late last month, the label officially released its first Baka single “Live Up To My Name,” an accessible auto-tuned cut that sounds not unlike what a number of current Hot 100 artists have scored their placements with. In a month’s time, the song logged more than 6 million plays on Spotify, giving it plenty of room for growth in the months ahead. Daniel Caesar Ten months after the single “Get You” first appeared on streaming and download platforms, this Toronto-based singer dropped his album debut Freudian on the independent Golden Child label just last week to critical acclaim at places like. Brimming with quiet storms and slow jams, the record is holding its own in Apple Music’s all-genre album chart, staying in the Top 10 despite competition from major label full-lengths by ASAP Mob and Lil Uzi Vert. This type of consumption could translate to an impressive opening frame on the Billboard 200 album chart. Over the last three weeks, the mature-beyond-its-age “Get You” began making moves on the Adult R&B chart, with a No.
That will almost certainly get a bump from the album’s release, and those streams and sales could very well set it or one of the album’s other velvety tracks on the path to the Hot 100. Dej Loaf No stranger to success, this Detroit rapper/singer already earned RIAA gold and platinum singles both as a lead artist and as a guest. Her breakthrough hit “Try Me” spent 20 weeks on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 45, and 2015′s “Back Up” with Big Sean reached No. 47 during its 18 week run. Though it debuted back in June, the accessible and, yes, summery pop track “No Fear” hasn’t yet made it onto the all-genre singles chart, though it currently holds the No.
4 slot under the Bubbling Under Hot 100, No. 13 on Hot R&B Songs and the No. 33 position on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. Now that her erstwhile mixtape collaborator Jacquees has a Hot 100 single of his own, Dej’s association with the Cash Money artist from earlier this year could help nudge “No Fear” upwards now.
Dave East Boasting an invaluable co-sign from hip-hop legend Nas, this Harlemite steadily built up a reputation and audience for his contemporary New York City rap stylings in the lead-up to his Def Jam debut Paranoia: A True Story. Not surprisingly, the 13-track project outperformed its buzzed-about indie predecessor Kairi Chanel on the Billboard 200, debuting at No. 9 this month versus the latter’s respectable No. 38 peak. With the record now out, a handful of its tracks could turn into prospective new singles including the French Montana feature “Maneuver” or “Phone Jumpin” with Wiz Khalifa. That all depends on whether or not his label wants to go that route so soon after launching pre-release cut “Perfect” roughly a month ago. The cut pairs East with Chris Brown, whose track record on the Hot 100 is well documented.
Moneybagg Yo With engaging releases like last year’s 2 Federal project with mentor Yo Gotti and this year’s Heartless, this Memphis rapper made notable strides on the commercial mixtape front. Yet the Federal 3X took things to a new level, surprising many chart watchers earlier this month when it debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 4 on Top Album Sales. The release is largely a solo effort, with a notable exception being “Reckless” with guest appearance by Hot 100 newcomer YoungBoy Never Broke Again. The strongest performing tracks on Spotify at the moment are “Doin It” and “Trending,” making those arguably the strongest contenders for a potential Hot 100 appearance.

One of the biggest takeaways from last nights Jets loss to the co-tenant Giants was the need for the team to address the left tackle position where they’re currently down to their third option in Brent Qvale who was consistently steamrolled against the Giants. Fans can get as angry at Qvale as they like for his poor play, but the fact of the matter is that with starting left tackle Kelvin Beachum sidelined with a foot injury and Ben Ijalana on injured reserve for the season, the Jets are forced to play their back-up right tackle at left tackle.

The results have been predictable. The fact that offseason addition Antonio Garcia has been a disaster at the position means that GM Mike Maccagnan has to go out and find some insurance. The biggest problem with that is that if you’re an NFL left tackle who can play even a little bit, you’re probably on a roster already, or you’re a player that a team ins’t looking to part ways with. The best option to add as a backup right now could be former Giants and Eagles offensive tackle Will Beatty who has 63 career starts at the position and spent last season in Philadelphia but remains unsigned. Whoever it is, the bottom line is that it can’t be Qvale. Todd Bowles needs to be able to move him back over to the right side where he can back up Brandon Shell, while a new body is brought in to take Ben Ijalana’s spot on the roster so that Jets fans (and Sam Darnold) can sleep better at night if Beachum were to miss any regular season action.
